How to DIY Crochet Braids Step-by-Step

Here’s a quick “How to DIY crochet braids” step-by-step list...

1. Cornrow your hair (preferably from the top of the scalp towards the ears).
2. Add the crochet hair bit-by-bit by using a crochet needle or bobby pin.
3. Slide the crochet needle under the cornrow (with the latch closed).
4. Open the latch, hook the crochet hair onto the needle and close the latch.
5. Pull the crochet needle and hair under the cornrow until a medium-sized hoop is formed.
6. At this point you should have a loop on one side of the cornrow and the loop ends (or tails) on the other side.
7. Fold the tails over the cornrow and put them through the loop. Don’t tighten yet.
8. Twist the loop with your fingers and put the tails through the loop again. Do this one more time for more stability. After that, pull to tighten and secure the hair in place.
9. Your first crochet ‘stitch’ should be securely fastened in place. Repeat until you’ve covered your entire head.
